SALE OF CHAMETZ: Part of the preparation for Pesach is, of course, getting rid of our chametz—leavened products. Whoever violates the prohibition of Chametz, teaches the sages, puts his/her soul in jeopardy. Chametz is symbolic of falsehood—that which is puffed up. By selling your chametz for Pesach, you express a desire to rid yourselves and your homes of falsehood, to express your truer self. All chametz not destroyed must be sold to a non-Jew. It should be placed in a special closet or room by 11:00am Monday, March 29, 2010 and left there until after Pesach. If the door or room has no lock, a piece of string or tape should be placed around the handles as a reminder that the contents are off bounds. Because of the religious and legal technicalities of such a transaction, it's best to appoint a rabbi as your agent for the sale. You can print and return the form below with a small donation (some exchange of money is preferable because this is a monetary transaction). After March 23rd please hand deliver theform to the Rabbi.
